Obviously intoxicated with phone power and dodgekas, it’s time for music. Like The Short One on Vizir,(who you can stroke to this day, for the price of a plane ride), we sally forth to liberate your ears from ringtones, car alarms and the crushing din of your own boredom.
Take it away JC:
Esser – ‘Headlock’ – Brilliant debut from former Great Baddow High School pupil, his reputation has snowballed massively over recent months. ‘On the verge’ as they say.
The Coral – ‘Being Somebody Else’ – More genius from one of Britain’s most original and consistent bands. No bullshit, no fuss, just an abundance of great music.
Metronomy – ‘Heartbreaker’ – This is sure to do well, could well be their biggest hit to date with its synth-heavy power chords, and its catchy as you like.

These would be home concocted and administered vodka cocktails.
They are made from vodka.
They are dodgey.
This post is a bit of a test.
I’m having computer issues.(At this rate my entire life may well qualify as a large computer issue)
So, I’m posting this from my blackberry.
On my couch.
After many dodgekas.
I’m, like, so totally connected.
And shit.

I’m currently holding a ruler.

This means I’m writing music.

With a pencil.

On paper.

This means I’m racking my brains.

Learning all the while.

And I love it.

Travels and work mean I’m a bit late posting this one. True music will never go out of fashion though, so let’s see how these picks from JC fare.

Late Of The Pier – ‘Heartbeat’I can’t stress how much I like this band, itching to hear the album. It drops on the 11th!
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip – ‘Letter From God To Man’Intelligent, funny, brilliantly observed and delivered lyrics, and those beats….wow. Works for me!
James Yuill – ‘No Pins Allowed’”Hello everybody. My name’s James. I make music on my laptop with my fingers and guitars and things and stuff.” And very good it is too!
Magistrates – ‘Make This Work’They cite Bowie, Prince and Talking Heads as main influences. I think they have some really interesting ideas. Essex boys as well, as are Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip. Must be something in the water!
Come on you Essex!!
Nice one JC.

backwards days

Posted in preTea on August 12, 2008 by bonharris

Being a multi instrumentalist/composer type, I’m kept busy making sure numerous “tools” stay “sharpened”.

Once or twice a week I like to break things up by doing everything in reverse. Musicians call it retrograde (astrologers probably do too). That could mean literally doing it “backwards”, or doing things in the opposite order than routine or instinct might indicate. Obviously waking up before you fall asleep is a challenge (sometimes – I hope America does it before November, and anyone who works extended hours has “been there”). Apart from that, it’s a simple device for a new perspective.

Much writing (of the musical variety) currently underway. I’m standing near an idea generator.

Generating ideas.

It’s funny how things work. Circumstances bought me to the banks of this historic river. If they hadn’t, I would have missed out on this jaw dropping natural beauty, not to mention some of the most down to earth, honest people one could ever hope to meet. We spent the day yesterday on a working farm. No wireless connection, and we caught our supper in a small trout stream with cane poles. A little simplicity in a sometimes complicated world.

Here comes our boy JC again. There’s no stopping him now. He seems to be gripped by some special kind of groove-fever. Here’s his picks for this week.

M83 – ‘Kim & Jessie’ – Nice bit of French electronica, chilled but not shit!
The Cock n Bull Kid – ‘On My Own Again‘ – Female solo artist from London, her Glastonbury performance earned rave reviews. Soulful and beaty, good stuff and plenty more to come I feel.
Port O’Brien – ‘I Woke Up Today’ – From Oakland, CA. Can’t help but smile when I hear this song.
ZX Spectrum Orchestra – You just have to check these guys out. Heard the set they did at Sonar on Rob Da Bank’s excellent Radio 1 show.
The Charlatans – ‘Mis-takes‘ – Bit hit and miss for me but I absolutely love this tune. Back on form me thinks.
